Philmac EasyLOK™ – Detailed Product Information

Join large bore metric pipe fast and reliably every time. Available from 20mm up to 110mm Philmac EasyLOK™ Compression Fittings are the fitting of choice for irrigation and industrial applications — where blue line PE pipe is carrying media such as water, compressed air or chemicals. Although designed for mining use, the range works equally well in other traditional PE pipeline applications such as irrigation and industrial.

  • Ease of assembly –
    Philmac EasyLOK™
fittings have been designed to ensure that installation is as easy as possible and that it works every time. When working with large pipes, installation can be challenging not only because of the size of the pipe but also the condition of the pipe. Recognising this EasyLOK fittings are installed by taking them apart and then putting the components on separately. The components all go onto the pipe easily and ensure that everything is positioned correctly no matter the condition of the pipe. The pipe can then be pushed into the body of fitting and the nut fully tightened. It’s important to note that with the range expanding to cover the 20mm to 50mm, these smaller fittings are able to utilise the Philmac Slide and Tighten feature which means there is no need to disassemble them when making the pipe connection. Installation is made easy and 100% reliable with EasyLOK.

  • Ease of disassembly –
    Philmac EasyLOK™
fittings have been designed so that they can be easily re-used. Once the fitting is installed it is a simple matter of loosening the nut with multi-grips or a spanner. Once the nut has been loosened the internal components can easily be released and the pipe removed from the fitting. Disassembly could not be easier.

  • Reduced Torque to Tighten Nut –
With Philmac Easylok™ fittings it is essential that the nut is tightened fully so that no threads are showing to ensure compete compression of the seal. The EasyLOK range has been designed to minimise the torque required to tighten the nut making installation as simple and easy as possible.

  • Visual stop –
The flange on the body of the Philmac EasyLOK™ fitting provides a visual stop to indicate when the nut is fully tightened. This removes any uncertainty from the installation process.

  • Chemical Resistance –
Standard compression fittings are supplied with nitrile seals which fail when they come into contact with acids. Philmac EasyLOK™ fittings are supplied with EPDM seals which means that the fittings can withstand a wide range of chemicals without having to switch components.

  • Designed to minimise pipe twist –
The Philmac EasyLOK™ fitting has been designed to minimise pipe twist as the nut is tightened. Maximum pipe twist is approximately three quarters of a turn compared to one and a half turns with many other fittings. Pipe twist can impact on not only the connection you have just made but also on the connection at the other end of the line.

  • Impact Resistance –
    Philmac EasyLOK™
fittings are made from a high grade of
polypropylene to provide significant resistance to impact. There is always a risk of impact so the fitting must be tough and durable to provide a long life. At the same time if in the unlikely circumstances that the material should fail due to impact, it will result in a ductile rather than a brittle failure. This means that there is no risk of injury through a fitting explosion when used in a compressed air application.

  • Complete coverage –
The Philmac EasyLOK™ range is rated to PN16 and is available from 50mm to 110mm.To ensure complete coverage and that there is a fitting for all requirements EasyLOK fittings are available in joiners, elbows, male and female adaptors, tees and threaded elbows and tees

  • Air Line Safety: –
    Philmac
strongly recommends that Philmac EasyLOK™ fittings should never be disconnected on a live air line. However in the event that work commences on an air line before the air supply is switched off, the use of Philmac EasyLOK fittings will ensure that a warning is given to the user that the line is live. The user can then switch off the air supply and continue working on the line in a safe manner.

The larger bore Philmac fittings have always been well regarded in the marketplace. However, rather than accept the status quo, Philmac spoke extensively to the market to see whether customers have any niggles, and if so whether improvements could be made. With fittings often being re-used, the sheer size of the pipe or the pipe condition not being optimal, customers indicated that from time-to-time issues were encountered. Enter the EasyLOK™ fitting range.

So, what is special about these EasyLOK™ fittings? Well, in a word they are easy to fit. The market has always loved the reliability and ease of the Philmac Rural fitting, so a similar concept was applied. Rather than try and push the pipe past all the components, these are now fitted to the pipe. Firstly the nut, followed by the collet/spacer and then the O-ring. Because these are fitted individually it makes the job easier and ensures a reliable connection every time. The pipe can then be inserted into the body of the fitting so it sits against the tapered wedges and by then tightening the nut to the body it positions all the components in place.

It’s important to note that with the range expanding to cover the 20mm to 110mm, the smaller fittings are able to utilise the Philmac Slide and Tighten feature which means there is no need to disassemble them when making the pipe connection.

Philmac’s EasyLOK™ Metric Fitting Range has every application covered with fittings from 20mm to 110mm.

It’s important to note that with the range expanding to cover the 20mm to 50mm, these smaller fittings are able to utilise the Philmac Slide and Tighten feature which means there is no need to disassemble them when making the pipe connection.

Another benefit is that the nut can mostly be tightened by hand due to the reduced torque design. Once the hand tightening is complete the collet holds the pipe in place which means no trying to hold the pipe in place and use a tool at the same time. How do you know the fitting is properly installed? The installation process is completed when the nut is tightened to the flange of the body with multi-grips or a Philmac spanner. Importantly the tightening of the nut to the flange provides a visual indicator that the job is complete. It ensures that the O-ring compression is optimised to provide a high level of tolerance to scuffed, scratched and oval pipe.

This same O-ring is now manufactured from a rubber called EPDM. Traditionally a nitrile rubber O-ring has been used. Why the change? The EPDM provides a greater resistance to chemicals such as acids and means the same fitting can be used in irrigation, industrial and mining applications.

What of those tapered body wedges we spoke of? Their role is to minimise pipe twist which could cause a fitting on the other end of the pipe to loosen. These wedges restrict pipe rotation to approximately no more than three quarters of a turn compared to one and a half turns with many other fittings.

So, is EasyLOK™ as easy to disconnect as it was to connect? Put simply, yes! By undoing the nut, the pipe can be removed from the body of the fitting and the components simply slide off the pipe. What could be simpler?

What is more, EasyLOK™ can be used on air-lines. Philmac strongly recommends that fittings should never be disconnected from a live air-line. However in the event this happens they have a safety feature, air will initially escape warning the user that the line is live, before the collet loses its grip and allows the pipe to pull out.

And lastly, does EasyLOK™ comply with any standards? You bet! Philmac undertook rigorous testing to ensure it meets AS/NZS 41291, AS/NZS 40202 and exceeds the requirements of ISO 142363. After all, Philmac is the connection you can trust.

Due to the positive feedback received as part of the development process the EasyLOK™ range was extended to smaller sizes and now encompasses 20 mm through to 110 mm.

Once again Philmac have made a tough job easy, no worries!

2. AS/NZS 4020: Testing of products for use in contact with drinking water
