What's Really In My Water? - Member Case Study

Discover how Albany Irrigation & Drilling helped their customer understand what's in their water and how to fix it.

The Goal

The customer came to Albany Irrigation & Drilling as the water in their home didn’t quite seem up to scratch. Arriving with a simple question - "I know our town water doesn't seem great... but what's actually going on?" - they were looking for a way to improve the water quality in their home, and protect their appliances and plumbing from the pitfalls of suboptimal water quality.

Location Overview

The customer’s home is an older one located within Albany. The house has copper plumbing and the risk of scale build-up throughout appliances, hot water system and plumbing was apparent, a concern which needed to be addressed in order to achieve the customer’s desire for better water quality in the home.

Pre-Project Consultation Notes

Prior to the recommendation and installation of any equipment, the Albany Irrigation & Drilling team completed comprehensive water testing to ensure that they were suggesting and fitting the right products for the job.

At this point in time, the customer’s water presented with the below values:

  • Hardness: 257 mg/L (classified as Extreme Hardness)
  • Turbidity: 7.16 NTU (Poor water clarity)
  • Iron present at 0.25 mg/L

Project Products

Once the key water quality issues were identified, the Albany Irrigation & Drilling team specified and installed Puretec filtration. The system for this house included three components:

  • Puretec WH2-55 Whole House Filter – to improve general water quality throughout the home
  • Puretec SOL40-E3 Water Softener – to combat the extreme water hardness identified during pre-project water testing
  • Puretec Z7 Undersink Drinking Water System – to help ensure enhanced purity of household drinking water

The Process

Once initial water testing was completed, the Albany Irrigation & Drilling team selected the right Puretec filtration systems for the customer’s needs. These systems are designed to be both quick to install, and easy to maintain, so the customer could start reaping the benefits almost immediately, and will be able to continue to enjoy quality water for years to come.

They then teamed up with local business, Cramer Plumbing & Gas, to ensure that everything was configured by licensed plumbers, and got everything up and running nicely. Then all that was left to do was carry out follow up water testing so the customer could know their new water quality values.

The Outcome

Following installation of the home’s new filtration setup, the Albany Irrigation & Drilling team re-tested the customer’s water. The results showed a massive improvement:

  • Hardness reduced from 257 mg/L to just 2-3 mg/L
  • Turbidity reduced from 7.16 NTU to less than 0.02 NTU
  • Iron reduced to below detectable levels
  • Crystal clear water throughout the home

These test results allowed the customer to have confidence that the water flowing through their home is of a premium nature, as they finally now know exactly what’s going on.

These results matter for a range of additional reasons including:

  • Less scaling on showers and taps
  • Better protection for hot water systems
  • Longer appliance life
  • Improved soap performance
  • Better tasting, cleaner drinking water
  • Potential reduction of staining issues
