Restoring a Wastewater System After Complete Pump Failure - Member Case Study

The Goal

This project completed by Water Installations was a rescue operation. The customer was dealing with an overflowing wastewater system which was both causing distress and creating a hazard.

Location Overview

When the team arrived on site, the Biolytix ATU System had completely overflowed due to a failed submersible pump. The failure had also caused significant damage inside the control panel, with the electrical components heavily rusted and the main controller beyond repair.

Pre-Project Consultation Notes

Given that electrical components were involved in the required works, the Water Installations team called in the help of Licensed Electrician Paul, from Swan Hills Electrical.

The team also noted that in addition to the repair works, the project would require education about the new system for both the tenant and the property owner.

Project Products This project included a complete overhaul of the customer’s wastewater system including: A new submersible pump Two new float switches A new pressure switch A new main controller for the system

The Process

Step one was safely removing the old submersible pump and control system. From here, the Water Installations team and Paul moved on to replacing the wastewater pump and installing two new float switches for better monitoring. The pressure switch was also replaced, and a new main controller was fitted to the system.

After completing the installation, the team spent additional time fine-tuning the home's alarm system to ensure it was operating correctly, and took the opportunity to explain the system's operation and alarm functions to the tenant, Noah. This helped ensure that they understood how everything works and what to look out for in the future.

The Outcome Before the team left the site, the entire system was fully operational, power had been restored, and there were no active alarms. This project highlights the importance of prompt servicing and quality replacement components when dealing with greywater pump failures. By replacing all critical components in a single visit and ensuring the control system was correctly configured, the team were able to return the system to reliable operation and provide the occupants with confidence that everything was functioning as it should.
