Large Scale Solar Pumping - Member Case Study

The Goal

The customer contacted Cobram Pumping & Irrigation in search of an efficient solution for moving water to and from multiple areas around their large property.

Location Overview

The location is a 750 acre farm in Kilfeera, Benalla VIC. Water needs throughout the property are diverse and rainfall is not sufficient to maintain the needs of the customer.

Water from the installed system will be used to supply the homestead and water stock, so reliability is a key focus of the project.

Project Products After considering all of the customer’s requirements, the team at Cobram Pumping & Irrigation decided that a Lorentz Solar Pumping system would be the most suitable water management solution. This is due to the fact that water would need to be sourced from a bore and transported a significant distance. The products used for the project include: ☀️ Lorentz PSK 12kw solar system ☀️ 28x 440V panels paired with a Clenergy solar terrace mounting system ☀️ 5.5kw pump and motor with a flow capacity of up to 120,000 litres per day at 90m total dynamic head pressure ☀️ 50mm flexibore lay flat drop hose ☀️ 6,500m of 2-inch and 1.5-inch poly pipe

The Process

The first step of the process was to get the bore that would be supplying the property’s water drilled. Once this was achieved, the pump was installed 60m down the freshly drilled bore, to facilitate water retrieval for the system.
Above ground the solar panels were set up with a terrace mounting system, and lines were dug for the pipes. Once everything was nicely laid and tested, the trenches for the pipes were filled in and the job was complete.

The Outcome

The pump now provides up to five litres of water per second and ensures reliable water supply across the entire property while being energy-efficient and eco-friendly. This water is distributed between multiple tanks, troughs, and 2 farm house lawns and the owners are quite happy with the setup.
