Backyard Trophy Lawn - Member Case Study

The Goal:

The customer’s goal with this project was to expand the liveable space on their property. While their yard was already configured with a pool, trampoline for the kids, and nice big shed, the space outside of this area had not been utilised.

Location Overview:

The team attended the residential property in Sutton, about 15/20 minutes from Canberra to assess the situation. The area where they would be working was a large patch of dirt off to the side of the space that the family were using as their outdoor recreational area.

Pre-Project Consultation Notes:

The customer wanted to make their yard more aesthetically pleasing and useable. They identified that they would like this achieved by turning the dirt area on their property into a lush, green space.

Project Products:

The Irrigear Goulburn team decided that the best course of action to achieve the customer’s desired results in a water wise manner was to install a Hunter Irrigation System. This was done with the use of ninety nine Hunter sprinklers, four control values, one pump and approximately 900m of pipe.

A Hunter X2-600 Control Panel was selected to manage the system, as it provides a simple way to manage all irrigation activities and is EPA Watersense IP55 approved. The Hunter X2-600 senses rain, wind and soil moisture and offers intelligent adjustment for weather conditions, as well as remote control via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth and integration with the Hydrawise app by Hunter.

The Process:

Each sprinkler was carefully selected to optimise flow and coverage, with control valves added to ensure that each section of the space got the right amount of water at the right time. Additionally, the pump provides an energy efficient way to deliver water throughout the property.

Once the irrigation system had been mapped out and approved, the Irrigear Goulburn team got to work digging trenches for the pipes and positioning all components. In addition to the irrigation system installation, grass was also sown in the area to ensure a solid uptick in greenery in the shortest amount of time possible.

The Outcome:

The customer now has a nice, large patch of greenery (actually it is a trophy lawn) where there was once simply dirt. This has significantly increased their enjoyment of the property as the space now looks much better and has improved functionality. And friends and clients are JEALOUS!

Additionally, the Hunter X2-600 Control Panel automatically detects when changes are required, while also allowing the customer to easily complete any manual adjustments, ensuring the system is future proof.
