In 1970 our first product, the FireBug Drip Torch was manufactured. Over 50 years later, FireBug continues to be the Drip Torch of choice Australia-wide and one of Rodney Industries’ top selling products.
Simple and Effective
FireBug Drip Torches are hand-held, flammable liquid fueled fire starters used extensively by the various state fire authorities for initiating forest fuel consumption and back-burning operations. FireBugs are also used in the agricultural sector for undertaking fire management practices.
The lightweight aluminium body of the FireBug Drip Torch means that the end user is not required to lug a heavy unit around – even when full.
A fuel tap and a breather valve control the rate of fuel fl ow to the wand tip. When the fuel tap and the breather valve are opened, and the FireBug Drip Torch is inverted, a regulated amount of fuel flows through the wand and saturates the fuel wick. This is then lit manually, and dragged slowly through the vegetation where the lit fuel mix drips onto the ground and ignites its path.
The gravitational feed of the FireBug Drip Torch allows the unit to drip fire, making it simple and quick to operate.
Firebug Drip Torches manufactured by Rodney Industries are a robust product with an expected long service life. The Rodney Industries range comprises of two sizes, a 4 litre and 5 litre fuel canister. The 4 litre has a fixed wand; the 5 litre has a retractable wand for easy storage.

when dealing with fire control processes. That is why our FireBug Drip Torches are
manufactured to the Australian Standard AS\NZS 2906 and have been NATA
Accredited. Plus, in addition to the normal visual observations that occur during the fabrication process, there are a number of quality check points completed to ensure the consistent high quality standard is being met with each batch of FireBug Drip Torches produced:
- 100% of units produced undergo pressure testing during the fabrication process to ensure that all fuel canisters are free from leaks.
- Power coating is fully inspected upon completion.
- A selection of Firebug Drip Torches from each batch undergo further, more detailed Quality Assurance product testing.
- Back-burning equipment should be used by trained, experienced personnel only.
- Precautions should be taken to prevent danger to yourself and others.
- A means of escape should always be located before setting fires where rapid spread may prove hazardous to yourself or others.
- All petroleum products should be handled with the same precautions as when working with fuel.
- Keep torch in good working condition, make sure all connections are tight; inspect on a regular basis and replace any damaged parts with original replacement parts only.
