Case Studies
Every year, IRRIGEAR STORES Members not only operate shopfronts which provide advice and products to their communities, but also design, implement and maintain water and fluid handling projects throughout Australia.

Here are just several examples showing our Member's range of service and project offerings.

Mendook station
Euston, New South Wales

Irrigation project by:
Cobram Irrigation (VIC)

Mendook Station has been transformed from a dry land cropping enterprise into a highly efficient Irrigated Farm. The project covered approximately 2,800 acres.

Mendook Station (some 10kms from the Murray River at Euston, NSW) draws water along a 550mm Poly pipeline installed along Pruangle Road. The water is pumped up into a 400 megalitre storage dam on the property. A Floating Pontoon with three 45kw Davey pumps have been installed on the river, transferring 25megaliters of water a day to the Dam.

The Property has been divided into 24 110-acre centre pivot sites, with five centre pivots running at the same time. The pivots pump system is run by five 55kw 125 x 100-200 Davey Motor pumps and controlled by a Techsys ORCA VFD drive control panel. Power is generated by 2 Cummins 250KVA generator sets fitted with 6CTA Cummins motors.

The main crop produced on the property is 550 acres of potatoes on a rotating basis – two crops a year with the balance being planted to winter cereals.

IRRIGEAR STORES – COBRAM IRRIGATION was approached by the Hope Family in November 2005 with the proposition of developing the property. Design, costings & due diligence were undertaken to determine project viability and sustainability. The project started in April of 2006 and Stage One was completed in October that year.

Wollondilly Shire Council
Wollondilly, New South Wales

Effluent management project by:
Hawkesbury Valley Irrigation (NSW)

Treatment and recycling of effluent water is a major concern for our community at large. In addition an every growing range of recycling technologies, responsible irrigation design and management can also be employed to assist Council Planners to ecologically re-use 'waste' water.

IRRIGEAR STORES – HAWKESBURY VALLEY IRRIGATION were contracted by Wollondilly Shire Council to design, supply and install an irrigation system to re-use treated sullage water from the effluent ponds at Charles Point Road, Bargo under license from the State Pollution Control Commission. Overhead sprinklers with low precipitation rates were selected, controlled by "Martin" Anti Contamination Automatic Valves with pressure supplied by a stainless steel Grundfos Submersible Pump.

Similar systems using Variable Speed Pumps have been utilised on large subdivisions at Nepan Park Estate at Yarramundi (between Richmond and Penrith) to recycle the estate's effluent water back to the landholders' gardens

Tailings Distribution & Dust Suppression
Tasmania

Tailings Distribution, West Coast Tasmania, by:
Irrigation Tasmania (TAS)

Large mine on the West Coast of Tasmania engaged Irrigation Tasmania to change tailings discharge from single point to multiple point discharge, to distribute the tailings more evenly around their tailings dam.

Four 315mm poly pipe lines from the pump station were brought to a custom built distribution and control manifold, where pumps and lines could be distributed to different parts of the dam. Manifold was constructed from 630mm poly pipe with 8,300mm valved off takes. Tailings were then distributed in sections with 100mm discharge pipes.

This enabled the mine to place tailings around the dam edge, and monitor and control tailings placement.

Industrial Dust Suppression
Irrigation Tasmania has onongoing project to design and install dust suppression around a mine's processing plant. Project involves the design and installation of dust suppression around the plant roadways and loading areas. Operators can individually select areas to be watered, depending on the direction and strength of the wind and the amount of dust being created.
